Woman's Hour Friday 10am

VEG's dad here

On Wednesday we went up to the BBC Radio studio in Oban. It's in a small room off a close and you collect a key from a hotel then let yourselves in.

We chatted to Dame Jenni Murray. We were incredibly nervous and it probably will show. Martha talked about her blog, Mary's Meals and Malawi. We forgot to mention our charity book again though! We aren't very good sales people.

Hope you get a chance to listen!

Dave

  2. Great photo! And what a nice cozy remote studio :) Just a sort of a BIG audio interface and an audio codec to transmit the audio in real-time. A simple solution indeed.

Hope you will find time among all the interviews and press events to keep up with the great work at the source of your miraculous power to change the world a little, i.e. here in the blog :)

More posts from Martha, please. And the week-long series of posts from different countries are very interesting too!

    thanks a lot!

  3. Thank you Dave. We will listen.

We're also pplanning to buy several of your books to give as Christmas presents. We can't think of a better way to spread the word AND help Mary's meals.

Well done to both of you. Everyone realises you had no idea what would come of Martha's blog, but we admire the way you are both coping with the outcome! :-)

  5. you did well Martha, very well for a 9, sorry 10, year old.
for those who didn't listen live, fast forward to about 37 minutes in.

hope you had a great birthday.

  6. Will listen to that. Don't worry about being nervous, I think it adds to the "genuiness" of your action. And don't worry about not mentioning the book, I am sure plenty like me have already bought it and waiting eagerly to read it. I am ashamed to say I will read it first secretly and then wrap it up for Christmas...maybe as a present for my youngest child who is 8 and is slowly being broken into reality and inequality from her world of princesses and fairy tales. Really well done!

  7. Veg, I thought you did an excellent job with the interview. As we know, you're a writer, not a radio or television reporter. Add to that your age and I don't know of too many other kids who would have done as well.

I'm looking forward to receiving my copy of your book, and I wish you the very best of sucess with it.

I know you live, now, in a strange dichotomy of worlds. On the one hand, you want to keep the publicity going as long as possible to keep raising money for Mary's Meals. On the other hand, you're a (now) 10-year old girl who's had a very emotional and difficult upheaval in what used to be a rather ordinary life. I'm sure you're wondering, by now, if life will ever be "normal" for you again.

Sweetheart, you will never get to re-live your childhood. Don't be afraid to say "no" when you feel you need. I'm glad you've taken some time off from writing your blog and don't feel pressured to return to it until you're ready. Even then, perhaps only a time or two per week, and continue to allow your blog to be used by children of other places to tell us about their school lunches. Truth is, the blog has grown "bigger than you" now. Embrace that fact. Your blog should be a joy to you. Not a chore you dread every day.

Probably not a lot of flowers left this time of year, but remember to take time out to look for fairies and mix up potions. *Hugs*

    1. Thanks Jaylah for your kind words. Your attitude is very in keeping with ours. We keep saying no to many very kind offers and our publisher understands.

Martha would like to take up an offer to appear on BBC TV once more to meet a presenter she met before Malawi and we're supporting that.

Martha's enjoying being ten her way and that's the only way it should be.

  12. Would everyone in UK please go into Waterstones and ask for NeverSeconds.

When told not in stock, not on order, express surprise that it is not on display in the front window.
