They are ripe when green.

Gruyere is wonderful, but I have to admit, having lived in Geneve, Lyon, and Clermont-Ferrand, that French Emmenthal and Swiss Emmenthal are not quite the same. I love both, and Gruyere, too!The Prudent Homemakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13229771550830911638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042538732461826230.post-8136597080038644442012-07-25T22:59:51.584+01:002012-07-25T22:59:51.584+01:00As said above, in Germany it's quite normal to...As said above, in Germany it's quite normal to have sausage/ham, cheese and marmelade/jam for breakfast. Add some cereal / muesli and an egg boiled to taste and You got a very nice mix that carries You over a good part of the day ^^

Nice to know: we got more than 300 different kinds of bread, over 300 different kinds of cheese and even more than 1500 different kinds of sausages here in Germany. Sitting in the middle of europe for centuries and importing all different kinds of food and eating habits has it's advantage, I guess ^^Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042538732461826230.post-66477710250752314752012-07-25T18:29:08.051+01:002012-07-25T18:29:08.051+01:00This looks to be a perfect breakfast to me. Just because it looks to be a lunch in some countries in others it's a perfectly good breakfast. I would say quite healthy - maybe sub wheat bread for the white instead.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07721133703486203100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042538732461826230.post-26406639245181879812012-07-25T15:04:51.896+01:002012-07-25T15:04:51.896+01:00You have the fixings for a Monte Cristo sandwich! ...You have the fixings for a Monte Cristo sandwich! A Monte Cristo is a ham (sometimes turkey) and cheese (usually Gruyere or Swiss) sandwich fried like French toast, dusted with powered sugar and served with jam.Sugarwaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15719272694952712092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042538732461826230.post-56760783980039414662012-07-25T13:59:20.782+01:002012-07-25T13:59:20.782+01:00Hi RAHA,

I thought it was an odd idea but it was surprisingly nice. You have to have mild cheese though. I don't think it would work with blue Stilton! I've also never seen plums that colour before, unless they were unripe, are they sweet tasting?Chell53https://www.blogger.com/profile/16121905810223667440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9042538732461826230.post-36945020810022246592012-07-25T09:05:32.068+01:002012-07-25T09:05:32.068+01:00Looks like a lovely breakfast, RAHA.
